Issue No. 199 – June 2022 : Thul Qadah 1443

In every daily prayer Muslims the world over are obliged to repeat several times, the salutation, “O Allah! Send salutations upon Prophet Muhammad and upon the family of Prophet Muhammad just as You sent salutations upon Ibraheem and upon the family of Ibraheem; Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah! Bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad just as You have blessed Ibraheem and the family of Ibraheem; Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious”.

This injunction emphasizes the Divine and exalted status conferred upon Prophet Ibraheem (Abraham) (peace be upon him) by the Almighty Himself as “Ibraheem Khalilullah” meaning “Ibraheem the Bosom Friend of Allah.”

A sign of his unwavering faith was his willingness in submitting to Allah Ta’ala’s command to sacrifice his firstborn son, Ismaeel (peace be upon him), without hesitation despite his deep love for the child.

It was a demonstration that his love and obedience to Almighty Allah superseded all others and that he would lay down his own life or the lives of those precious to him in submission to His will. The Noble Quraan mentions, “And who could be of better faith than he who surrenders his whole being unto Allah and is a doer of good and follows the creed of Ibraheem who turned away from all that is false – And Allah chose Ibraheem as a friend.” (Surah 4: Verse 125)

In observance of this Prophetic Tradition, it is incumbent on those who have the financial means to offer the sacrifice of a goat, sheep, cow or camel. Qurbani/ Udhiyyah (ritual sacrifice) is a sacred and very meritorious act and should be done with enthusiasm solely for the Pleasure of Allah, Most High.

Through this act of Qurbani/Udhiyyah, we strengthen our relationship with Allah Ta’ala and affirm our submission and obedience to His Divine injunctions. However, this can only be attained by sincerity and enthusiasm which are the most important and indispensable parts of the Qurbaani act.

Given the paramount importance of Eid ul Adha, SANHA’s Ulama reach out each year via public programmes and the media to enlighten the community on Qurbaani, its significance, deeper meanings and dynamics. Let us take you through the many do’s and don’ts to perfect your great act of Ibaadah.
