Issue No.114 – July 2022 : Dhul Hijjah 1443

Eid al-Adha (the festival of Sacrifice) is amongst the most important of occasions celebrated by Muslims globally
on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. It commemorates and honours the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) peace
be upon him to sacrifice his firstborn son Ismail (Ishmael) peace be upon him, as an act of total submission and
unquestionable obedience to Allah Almighty, who through His magnanimous compassion intervened and
provided a ram from Jannah (paradise) to sacrifice instead.

In commemorating this great act of submission, we are saying; O Allah! I am even prepared to lay down my
life for you. Therefore, it is imperative that we strive for maximum reward by executing Qurbani with enthusiasm
and perfection. Be on guard against inadvertent errors and transgressions, which nullify the rewards or even the
validity of your Qurbaani (Udh-hiyyah sacrifice). Ensure that it is carried out in strict accordance to the Shar’iah
(Islamic law).

“And who could be of better faith than he who surrenders his whole being unto Allah and is a doer of good
and follows the creed of Ibrahim who turned away from all that is false – And Allah chose Ibrahim as His
intimate friend.” (Chapter 4, Verse 125)
