Issue No.115 – August 2022 : Muharram 1444

Alhamdulillah, thanks to the efforts of parents, educators and our Ulama, Muslims have a
greater awareness of Halaal/Haraam issues than ever before. While no Muslim deliberately
sets out to destroy his Ibaadah and negate his Salvation by consumption of Haraam, there
is the reality of doubtful or unlawful ingredients hidden in many products.

What happens at abattoirs slaughtering Halaal is well governed with the
required supervision, regular audits, and inspections by State Veterinarians, officials of
Muslim importing countries and even the occasional undercover journalist. However, just
how little is known about the food that is on our supermarket shelves, in boxes, cans and
bottles, which has been processed to make it more convenient and ready to eat. Some three
thousand substances and several thousand more compounds and combinations can be used
during processing, packaging and storing. With widespread use of additives
and “incomprehensible” labelling jargon, it is impossible for any one person of the supply
chain to give you comfort and Halaal assurance. Our team of experienced analysts and
Shar’iah experts take the guesswork out of the equation for your peace of mind. For more
than 25 years, SANHA has been your dedicated service provider keeping you informed of
Haraam and Halaal products.

As we enter Muharram, the first month of the new Islamic year, we remind ourselves, that
key and central to the acceptance of Ibaadah and eternal salvation is abstention from
Haraam as expounded in the Quraan and the Sunnah. Abstention from Haraam begins
with what you eat. In implementing the Sunnah of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam, we should expand our spend on family and dependent members on the blessed day
of Aashuraa. Let us ensure that all we purchase and gift is 100% Halaal.
May Allah Ta’ala accept our Ibaadah, grant Barakah in our sustenance and favour us with
purity of soul and proximity to His Divine Being.

LET MUHARRAM BE THE NEW BEGINNING
