Issue No.202 – August 2022 : Muharram 1444

We salute, pay tribute and reaffirm our enormous gratitude to all women in our society for their role in the development and progress of humankind. Throughout history, mothers, sisters and daughters have been the backbone playing a fundamental role in supporting and nourishing their families, emotionally, psychologically, physically and most importantly, spiritually. From the difficulty of bearing and raising children, ensuring consumption of Halaal, instilling values, providing educational support, being dutiful wives and contributing to the overall development and wellbeing of the household today.

WOMAN’S DAY

Sixty six years ago on the 9th August, 20,000 women fearlessly marched to the Union Building in Pretoria against the powerful white apartheid regime in protest against the unjust law that required South Africans discriminatorily labelled as Blacks to carry the dreaded “dompas” identity book. The march was led by Rahima Moosa, Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph and Sophia Williams. Woman’s day in South Africa is a public holiday to commemorate the anniversary of that courageous march. HALAAL

Our sisters are in the forefront of the spiritual war of ensuring that we consume that which is Halaal (permissible) and abstain from Haraam (forbidden). Our Helpline receives 18000 queries annually. The overwhelming majority of the enquiries are from women. The same pattern follows at community events and exhibitions. They are most concerned with the wellbeing of their family’s spiritual as well as physical health.

Our home industries are mostly the brainchild of enterprising women who have used their creativity and talents to supplement the income of the home in these times of ever-rising costs of living. We certify about a hundred home industries and support & promote their endeavours. Click here for our article on Home Industries : https://sanha.co.za/flashnews/2021/flashn170.html

ISLAM

Islam liberated and elevated women 1400 years ago to a position of honour in society and has allotted her an indispensable role in life. A most beautiful and apt simile of a woman is given in the Noble Qur’aan where Allah Ta’ala describes her as the garment and protector of her husband.

“…They (your wives) are your garment and you are a garment for them…”(Chapter 2: Verse 187)

The garment is the grace, the beauty and embellishment of the body, so too are wives to their husbands as their husbands are to them.

SANHA joins the country in saluting our women. We urge all to honour those who are indispensable in our lives and whose roles will always remain irreplaceable. Let’s honour them today and every day, Insha Allah.

WE ARE PROUD OF OUR WOMEN
