Issue No.231 – August 231
A snapshot in world affairs shows that the 1,8 Billion Muslim population accounts for 24% of the 7,8 Billion inhabitants of the planet. Muslims are found in almost all of the 195 countries of the world. Muslims are also in significant numbers as a minority in countries such as India (200 Million), China (70 million), Europe (44 Million) and the USA (4 Million).
The central code of existence in the life of Muslims is the Shari’ah (Islamic law). Divine and sacred, it is the Law of Allah, the Creator of all, that permeates the life of Muslims. The consumption of Halaal food is an intrinsic and mandatory article of faith.
This imperative has driven incredible recession-proof growth in the global and local Halaal markets. It has become a truly global phenomenon worth trillions of dollars with an impact beyond the food sector. Demand has also mushroomed in areas such as logistics, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, fashion/clothing, tourism, banking and investments.
Accessing the market
The basic tenet of a successful business is to know your customer and market. At a local community fair, you get to interact with new exciting entrepreneurs and meet your customers, and at an international trade exhibition, you learn about the latest trends and opportunities for export & import.
Despite technological advancements in communication via digital media, trade exhibitions, fairs and conferences continue to be among the most effective and proven methods to generate interest, and positivity, and to establish & build relationships and community pride through discussion, analysis and networking.
