Issue 136 : April 2024 -Shawwal 1445

As the crescent moon bids farewell to the blessed month of Ramadhān, it leaves behind a tapestry of experiences woven with threads of hunger, perseverance, empathy, family gatherings, congregational prayers, Qur’ānic recitation, and acts of charity. Yet, amidst these enriching moments, one profound lesson emerges — the value of time.

Throughout Ramadhān, punctuality becomes a cornerstone of our daily routines. From the precise timing of fasting to the observance of the nightly Tarawīh salaah, Muslims around the globe exemplify an unwavering commitment to punctuality. This dedication is not new to us; it mirrors the prescribed timings of our five daily salaah and the annual Hajj pilgrimage, reinforcing the importance of honouring time-bound commitments in Islam.

The Qur’ān emphasizes the fulfillment of obligations, reminding believers of their accountability for every engagement. Surah Al-Ma’idah (Chapter 5: Verse 1) urges believers to fulfill their obligations, while Surah Al-Isra (Chapter 17: Verse 34) underscores the accountability of every engagement on the Day of Reckoning. Thus, punctuality is not merely a matter of reputation or social etiquette but a spiritual obligation ingrained in Islamic teachings.

Reflecting on the lessons of Ramadhān, it becomes evident that our adherence to punctuality extends beyond religious rituals. It encompasses honouring appointments, respecting others’ time, and fulfilling commitments diligently with integrity. By embodying these principles, we not only uphold Islamic values but also set an example for those around us.

As Ramadhān draws to a close, let us carry forward the gift of time that this sacred month has bestowed upon us. Let us pledge to integrate the discipline of punctuality into every aspect of our lives, becoming beacons of reliability and integrity in our communities.

With the dawn of Eid al-Fitr, we extend heartfelt wishes to Muslims worldwide. May Allah accept our efforts during Ramadhān and grant us the strength to embody its teachings throughout the year. May this blessed month serve as a catalyst for goodness and compassion, not only in our lives but in the lives of our communities and humanity at large. Āmīn.

It’s time to act – let the lessons of Ramadhān guide us on a journey of purposeful living, one punctuated by the value of time.
